So, I’m on the hunt for new and exciting kickstarter projects to invest in. I just came across Worldspinner: Fantasy RPG Worldbuilder & Map Maker and it has really piqued my interest. I am little uncomfortable with annual memberships, but that is something I would probably get used to so long it will do what it is reporting it can do. It reports to be able to allow subscribers to easily create world maps, allow the maps to advance and change as the stories affect the world and even add location markers and tie history and adventure seeds to those locations. Lastly, they will print various sized maps (at a cost) and ship to the subscriber. The purchase of printed maps will also extend your subscription by one year. At this time there is no indication as to what these maps might cost. There is also hints of premium content that have me a little concerned. I wish they would elaborate on this some what.
This project has some serious potentional to change the way the RPG world creates and uses maps at the table and their virtual games. All-in-all, I think this is one project I will continue to watch a little more and see where it goes before I decide to back, but that shouldn’t stop you from have look and making your own informed decision.
