Today, I had the opportunity to play an interesting game called Sci-Fi Beta Kappa. Yes, you read that right and it sure sounds like a frat house party game. If that was your initial thought after reading the title you’d be partly right. Sci-Fi Beta Kappa is an interesting game.
Is a light-hearted role-playing game about delinquent aliens sent to 22C Terra under the terms of a treaty that enables us to receive the benefits of powerful Galactic Federation technology in exchange for taking in its low-level miscreants. The characters in the game are denizens of a frat house in Weber College, in New New England, where they get up to all kinds of mischief and are constantly under the watchful eye of the Dean, who hates aliens and is always looking for an excuse to close down Alien House.
Now, keep in mind the above summary, imagine a group of five misfit aliens who still had very little understanding of the human race and their varied cultural practices. These five misfits were living out what might be construed as the party scene of the movie Animal House. Well, that’s the way approached it. The GM gave us the parameters of the story and we ran with it. I am not sure how to describe the mechanics of the game other than they are rather simple and work very solidly. The designers of this game have a solid little game here. I encourage you to watch the actual play video of our antics, is this absolutely fun game! I explained to my 12 year old son about the antics and the chaos of the game, he immediately wanted to try the game!

Glad you enjoyed it 🙂 I’ve actually run two games for children, one last year for a group of 13-15 yos, and the other two weeks ago for a 14 yo, an 11 yo and an 8 yo!! In the case of the former, I thought it was adults that had signed up, but when I saw it was kids swiflty changed the scenario to an ‘Alien High’ version, which I then repeated with the latter group. Basically, the aliens are in a high school, and “are constantly under the eye of the Head Teacher, who etc. etc.” In the end it proved very easy to hack.
Regarding sales, I’m currently wrangling Lightning House, so it should be up on DriveTHRU very soon. If you want a copy quickly, please let me know and I’ll send you one from the locally printed stock we carry. My e-mail is leomarshalldesigns [AT] hotmail [DOT] com.

Thanks for the great insight into hacking this for different age groups. I realyl had fun as you can tell from the video. I think my slide was a hell of an idea! Not to mention the coffee bean producing porpoises.
