I recently contacted Dark Cult Games to inquire about ordering a set of their recently Kickstarted Cthulhu Insanity Dice. Despite them not being loaded into their online store yet, company owner, Ben, hooked me up and let me order a set.
Obviously, reviewing dice is a short and sweet affair. So, what do I have to say about these dice?
They are large and singularly very comfortable in ones’ hand
The text is large and easy to read (good for use aging gamers)
Despite their size, they are not overly heavy
One die is for immediate effects (green tentacle)
One die is for phobias (red tentacle)
Limited dice rolling test results show random distributions
Are the dice specifically for Call of Cthulhu? That was their intended purpose, but I can see them being used in other games such as Trail of Cthulhu, Cthulhu Hack or even fantasy games where horror is a part of the gaming experience and you want to impose either short term or longer term psychological effects. To that end, the dice have more uses than they were originally created for. That’s an A+ in my book!

Interesting. Are these designed to match 7e entries are they approximations? Meaning do their values match up with specific 7e tables? I understand they may be used with other games but I would be most interested if they match 7e tables exactly. Thanks!

No, they do not match the rulebook verbatim. Some faces of the dice do match. Otherwise, they are in the same vein as the tables in the Keeper’s Guide. I think they are pretty dang cool and I am finding they are fun to use in a game.

Got it. Any idea when they will go on sale to the general public?
What I really need is my Investigators to go insane more often. I must be doing something wrong.
