My Plans for Roleplaying Games in 2017 – Success Through Planning

2017 is starting to shape up nicely on the RPG front; not so much on other fronts. Earlier this fall I proclaimed that in 2017 I was going to focus more heavily on just a few RPGs so as to get more mileage out of the material I already own and somehow continue to buy. So, the current plan (slightly modified from earlier) looks like this.

Call of Cthulhu – Over the last several months I have purchased so many Call of Cthulhu books, I have to get some mileage out of at least a few of them. I plan to continue running regular games of CoC in 2017, both locally and online.

King Arthur Pendragon – This is one of all time favorite RPGs! A new cleaned up version of the rules was just released. I also purchased the print on demand version of the The Great Pendragon Campaign. Therefore, I have to get this to the table in some compacity in 2017. I have been separated from this game for too many years (nearly 20). I will make this right in 2017! Will be looking for players very soon. I have not determined if it will be online or face-to-face yet.

The Cthulhu Hack – This game with supplements was sent to me as part of the RPG Geek Secret Santa program this year. It looks wicked awesome with simple rules. I suspect this will see lots of game play in 2017. Heck, I might even run a game for my son and his friends over the holiday break.

Labyrinth Lord – I am currently (still) running my Stonehell Dungeon campaign. In a few short weeks we will have been playing every other week (mostly) for a year. There is no way I’m going to stop now! The players are coming together nicely as a team now that they have a new purpose for why they are roaming in the dungeon.

I do hope to continue playing in a semi-regular D&D 5e game in 2017. Our Dungeon Master is an adjunct professor and her schedule is crazy, to say the least.

Having just reread what I wrote, holy crap! I’m going to a very busy Game Master this coming year. Could be worse I guess. At least I enjoy running games! I have always found that planning is the key to success. It’s something that helps me stay on track and gives measurable goals to strive for.

What are your plans for 2017? Will you seek to play lots of different games or will you concentrate on a just a few to get the most out of them?
